LIA Overview
| Leaders in Action (LIA) is a program
to train and prepare upper-level managers to become executives. The
program is a partnership between the Southern Area Consortium of Human
Services (SACHS), San Diego State University, and the Academy for
Professional Excellence. This training program originated out of an
interest from SACHS directors for an executive talent pipeline to
fill executive positions due to increased retirement rates. The southern
California county agencies participating in Leaders in Action include:

LIA incorporates evidence-based approaches to
succession planning and executive development in a way that is tailored
to the needs of the southern county human service agencies. The program
is essentially a subsystem of the 8 participating county agencies, intended
to support their ongoing work to accomplish objectives, adapt to a changing
environment and prepare for the future.
The program’s ultimate goal is to create a critical
mass of highly competent executives in the southern region ready for tomorrow’s
county leadership opportunities and challenges.
