    Al Killen-Harvey, LCSW

Mr. Killen-Harvey is a Lead Social Worker at the Chadwick Center of San Diego Children's Hospital where he supervises a clinical staff that works with children who have been physically, sexually and/or emotionally abused.

As a licensed clinical social worker, he has extensive experience and expertise in the area of child abuse and neglect. He is a past recipient of the San Diego County Child Abuse Coordinating Council Unsung Hero Award for his work with children who have been abused and/or neglected. Currently he serves as a program consultant to the UCLA Rape Treatment Center.

Mr. Killen-Harvey has served on the board of CAPSAC (California Professional Society on the Abuse of Children). As a faculty member of the Public Child Welfare Training Academy, he trains Child Protective Services workers throughout Southern California. Additionally he is an adjunct faculty member at California State University, Long Beach.

During his term as chair of the San Diego County Juvenile Sex Offender Task Force, he also co-chaired a committee that developed the first countywide protocol for the treatment of juvenile sex offenders.

Mr. Killen-Harvey is a frequent presenter, nationally and internationally, on a wide variety of topics related to children and adolescents. He presents annually at the San Diego Child Maltreatment Conference. For the past few years Mr. Killen-Harvey has served as a consultant to the city of Edinburgh, Scotland where he has conducted workshops and seminars on the risk of abuse to gay male adolescents. He was recently invited by the government of Ecuador to assist in the development of their first nationwide child abuse legislation.

A graduate of San Diego State University, Mr. Killen-Harvey is now on the university faculty as a field instructor in the Masters of Social Work program.

His involvement with the San Diego Gay and Lesbian Community Center has included volunteering his services as a therapist, consultant, presenter and staff trainer for over a decade.

Mr. Killen-Harvey maintained a private practice in San Diego for 14 years, working with a broad spectrum of clients. He brings a vast clinical and personal history of experience to his work in the area of sexual identity and development.
